Money Matters

How our finances work, and how you can play a part

Church finances are a mystery to most people! This section of our website explains how things work at St James Church Taunton, and how you can support what we do.

In brief, churches are primarily funded by their members. Grants may be available for some one-off projects, but ongoing funding has to be raised by the church itself. So we have to pay for our staff, the maintenance of our buildings, insurance, the usual utility bills, and so forth.

Occasionally, we may make special appeals. At present, we need to put the funding of our Children’s and Youth Teams onto a sustainable basis, so please watch out for further details.

A brief guide to our income and expenditure

Some principles for Christian giving.

Ways in which you can make a one-off or a regular donation to the work of our church.

Gracious God, giver of all we have and hold as stewards; grant us a deep and abiding awareness that all things come from you – our health, our incomes, our jobs, our talents and our generous impulse. Send your Holy Spirit to help us as we swim against the rising tides of materialism, envy, individualism and greed in our culture.

When we are tempted to think of money as a private matter, remind us that you have asked for part of what we are given, to be returned to you as a symbol of our awareness that you give all we have. And further, help us to help each other in this grace of giving, for you are the lover of our souls and call us to nothing less than transformation in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
